Galata Antique Hotel, had been built as a mansion in 1881 (at that time beyoglu and taksim was called "Pera") for a levatine french family named Decugis, by the famous architect Alexandre Vallaury. Pera Palace Hotel, Istanbul Archeology Museum, Bosphorus Palace, Academy of Fine Arts are some examples of his monuments in Istanbul. In his shop at Istikal Street Monsieur Decugis was selling valuable antiques, porcelains and crystals. He was well known about his business ethics and honesty. Back then Beyoglu was home district for the opulent levantine families - mostly the francophones - who were living in Istanbul.
